God what can you give me and how will I know?

For the full context of this post read Genesis 15 : 1-8.

“Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless?” (Genesis 15: 2)

Abraham had a deep faith in God and walked closely with him. Scripture records several conversations between Abraham and God which indicates they spoke often. God had promised to make Abraham the father of a great nation. Abraham longed for Sarah to have a child and he trusted God enough to expose his deep desire to God. Abraham asks, “God, what can you give me?” and “Lord, how can I know.”

Abraham’s words cut deep. His heartache is raw. Believing in God doesn’t take away the hurt of an unrealized dream. Holding faith for the promise doesn’t make the pain of waiting any less painful. Abraham was honest enough to share the hurt of his unfulfilled dreams with God, and if I am honest, I can admit that I have felt the heartache of unrealized dreams as well. I believe that God has promised me great things that haven’t happened yet. There are moments that I have great faith, and moments that my heart cries out, “God, what can you give me and how will I know?”

If your heart is holding onto unrealized promises from God, trust him enough to expose your deep desires to him. Share your heartache with him. God will listen to your questions, he will reassure you of his faithfulness, and in his perfect timing, he will fulfill his promises to you.

Waiting is so hard, but he always comes through. I love it when he does.
