Confidence in asking for help

For the full context of this post read Hebrews 4:12-16.

There is a truck bumper sticker which I have seen from time to time which reads “Yes I have a truck. No I won’t help you move.” The bumper sticker brings humor to the fact that if any of us ever move, we want all of our friends who own trucks to help us! Have you ever had one of those friends that you knew you could call not only to help you move, but for anything you needed no matter what time it was? Maybe it’s when you need someone to pick up your kids from soccer because you are running late. You are confident Carpool Clara will help! Maybe you need someone to walk you through a difficult situation. Do you have a friend who you can confidently call for that situation? Or maybe you find yourself in a bind at 2 o’clock in the morning again. Who can you call then? The author of Hebrews wrote that we can have confidence in approaching God during our time of need.

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:14-16, NIV).

Jesus, the son of God, was tempted in every way that we are, yet did not sin. Because of his death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven, we can have confidence to approach God during our time of need. We can hold firmly to our faith that because Jesus was without sin, he will always help us in our time of need. You may not be able to count on all of your truck friends to help you move, but you can confidently approach God to help you walk through a difficult situation. You can have confidence that at 2 o’clock in the morning God will give you grace and mercy. Jesus is the friend who will always be there for you no matter what your need is and no matter what time it is.

When you are in need of someone to pick up your kids from soccer, Carpool Clara is still your go to gal. For all other needs, place your confidence in Jesus, the son of God who was tempted in every way, yet was without sin.
